Static IPs are usually used for remote access; if you need to access your internal network remotely, a a static IP will make this easier. Whether you want to watch your CCTV cameras, log on to your dektop, set up a VPN, or host a server, using a static IP will simplify your setup and requirements. Although all of this can be done with services like DynDNS or NoIP, these usually need compatible hardware, or specially configured client software. With a static IP, there's no special setup needed.
