What speed do I need
13 April 2017
If you have anything smaller than 2 Mbps.. you might need to upgrade your ADSL line speed. You are living in the past and if you can get it from your exchange, now is the time to get into the 21st Century !
2Mbps is the entry level we suggest as it is just enough to have for decent connectivity if you are generally sending mails and doing a little browsing. It’s mostly aimed at the family unit and is usable by 2 simultaneously.
4Mbps is a popular choice for the family as well as it is faster, still affordable and can be used for online videos, some light gaming, social media and online calling like skype. Downloads are possible and it’s a decent speed if your line is not giving any issues. If your family is made up of four or five members using the internet at any one time, this is still good value for your money.
8 Mbps this is where it gets to be fun to use the internet. You can use this line for streaming videos online, for really pleasant home gaming, and if you have this for business calls and large downloads, you should have a great experience.
10Mbps You are going to be a happy internet chappy ! This is fast and great for all data and streaming on high definition with ideal downloads at high speeds. Lag is at a minimum if you are into your gaming on a really competitive level.
20 Mbps This is just short of being in internet heaven as you can download files and move things around the internet at the speed of light.. well almost. Ideally you should be able to service a large office or a very active family of internet users very successfully.
40 Mbps This is the fastest any ADSL can go in South Africa and if you are in an area which offers this.. don’t ever move house again ! It’s great for really “switched-on” business and you can download files at full speed in minutes.
